Treasure Lagoon

Laguna del Tesoro is accessed by boat from Boca de Guamá and through a canal surrounded by thick vegetation. With its 9 km² and 5 km diameter, trout abound in the lake, which inhabit its crystalline waters of 4 m in average depth. It is a perfect place for nature tourism and sport fishing in Cuba.

Legend has it that when the Indians believed themselves to be in danger by the Spanish conquerors, they sank a boat in the lake with their most precious possessions to prevent the theft of their wealth.

In addition to trout, you can find manatees and manjuaríes, a fish that is considered a living fossil that is only found in the Zapata swamp, although its fishing is prohibited.

At the eastern limit of the Montemar Park, the Treasure Lagoon is located halfway between Jagüey Grande and the Bay of Pigs, known place where Playa Larga is located.
