The news related to COVID-19 in the Greater Antilles was stimulating again this Wednesday, with the confirmation of only six cases, the lowest number since the end of March, to which 49 medical discharges were added. : a favorable trend that is consolidating in Cuba and marks a crucial point in the confrontation with the pandemic.
In the midst of this situation, which moves between enthusiasm for favorable numbers and the urgency of not dismantling even one of the measures applied, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, They led the meeting of the temporary working group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus, a meeting that has marked the daily agenda of the Cuban government since the beginning of the third month of the year.
As explained by the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, in Cuba little more than 5,000 people remain in the care and surveillance of COVID-19, 810 of them in hospitals, the rest in isolation centers set up for contacts, suspects and travelers.
Even though the statistics associated with the pandemic in the national territory decrease little by little, one of them remains in similar figures every day. This is the active investigation, the cornerstone of this battle on the Island, and on which Portal Miranda explained that on the last day more than 4 million 544 000 people had been reached again; one million 671 675 of them are older adults.
When monitoring the events of local transmission of the disease, he said that 44 have happened and 24 have been closed, as no new cases were confirmed in them. The 20 that remain active are located in seven provinces and the Isle of Youth, in which reinforcement or quarantine measures have been applied, due to their complexity.
On this occasion, the highest authorities in Havana again informed the country's leadership about the epidemiological situation in the capital, a territory with 873 confirmed cases - the highest number in the country - and where eight local transmission events are still open. .
In this regard, the governor, Reinaldo García Zapata, explained that in the last two days the number of PCR diagnostic tests has remained above 1,200, which is in line with the decision to deepen the research in the city, where five cases were confirmed this Wednesday.
At the moment, he added, there are 296 active cases in Havana, although 448 patients remain hospitalized, as suspects or contacts. The hospital occupancy rate is 34%, a figure that has also been decreasing.
García Zapata reported that as of this night the isolation measures are reinforced in the municipality of Old Havana, where 33 cases have been determined since the epidemic began and that due to its proximity to Central Havana and its population density requires a different perspective.
The Provincial Defense Council of Camagüey, a territory in which 47 COVID-19 patients have been confirmed, also reported at this meeting; 35 of them are already recovered, 11 are still admitted and a death is regretted.
As happened in one of the meetings of the temporary group the previous week, Governor Yoseily Góngora López commented on the progress of the recovery of the municipality of Florida, where a severe local storm occurred in late April. In the midst of confronting the pandemic, she pointed out, 295 of the 500 damages have been resolved and the total construction of eleven homes began, which will be delivered on the occasion of July 26.
An important point in the appointment of this Wednesday corresponded to managers of the Caribe and Cimex Stores, who explained the work being done to improve electronic commerce in the country, which includes increasing bandwidth, improving equipment and the reorganization of the workforce in charge of this matter.
Regarding the dissatisfactions generated in the population with the delay in orders or the cash discount without having made the order, President Díaz-Canel told the managers of both chains "to strive to treat people who are affected" .
The Cuban president spoke about the need to build trust with the solutions that will be given, apologize accordingly and not leave people uncertain.
“We have to continue improving this, because it is here to stay. From now on we have to evolve to have more electronic commerce than analog. It is one of the things that we have to promote ", he specified.
All that is invested in logistics, in the conception of stores, reflected Díaz-Canel, has to be projected more to electronic commerce than traditional.
Although, he clarified, “we will always have to maintain a traditional level of trade because everyone does not have access to these platforms; everyone does not dominate them ”.
An important part of our commerce will go that way, he said, which is more comfortable for everyone, and "will provide quality service, will also add value and will further enhance the development of commerce on modern platforms."
